BATTLE OF BRITAIN BUNKER TRIP

YEAR 9 PRINCE’S TRUST TRIP - MRS MARTINCEVIC

On Monday 27th January the Y9 Prince’s Trust students visited the Battle of Britain Bunker in Uxbridge.

Students went down the 76 steps (60ft) underground to the Operation Rooms from where the Battle of Britain was controlled in 1940 during WW2.  Students learnt about the RAF's air defence system that controlled the skies during this time.

Upon returning above grounds students then took part in a workshop where they got to handle some of the original equipment used and discussed how valuable these item where to the people working in the bunker.

The remainder of the day was spent in the museum where students got to dress up in RAF uniforms and use the interactive equipment on display.

The students really enjoyed the day learning all about the RAF during this time, they asked lots of questions and where really lucky enough to also meet a War Veteran called Patrick who served on HMS Wilton as a coder, who showed them all his medals including the Chevalier de la Legion d’honneur.
