On Friday 10th December the Prince’s Trust students and the SEND department hosted an afternoon tea party for parents and staff. The event was part of the Prince’s Trust community project and customer service units for their portfolio.
On the 8th of December, Barnhill students and staff took part in a wider range of activities in school and educational trips across all year groups as part of an off-timetable Deep Learning Day.
Police officers spoke about a range of topics concerning today's society, including keeping safe online, being street-smart, and raising awareness of the dangers of drugs and alcohol abuse and knife crime. Army soldiers answered students’ questions and demonstrated their gears. Also, our students had a first-hand experience of what it is like to work for the national ambulance service as first aider, paramedic and first response officer.
In total: 7 different events in school, 502 students enjoyed three separate educational trips to the Science Museum in Central London, Hampton Court and the Globe Theatre. Additionally, 40 external visitors who contributed to our students' wider learning and 26 different activities that enriched pupils' horizons and possible career aims in the future.
By developing these skills and wider learning, Barnhill is dedicated in educating its students in preparation for life experiences and possible challenges they might face.
Thank you to all Barnhill staff and the external visitors who came to our school, making it such a superb experience for all of us. Our students were given a wonderful cultural experience and enrichment that will help them to navigate and contribute to wider society. Needless to say that it was a fantastic way to wrap up a very challenging year for all of us.
On Monday 15th November 2021, we had the delightful opportunity to organise and host the MLP’s first ever Poetry Slam at Barnhill Community High School.
To mark Diwali celebrations, the school organised various activities and competitions for students. Pupils painted "diyas"(ethnic lamp), decorated candles and listening traditional music.
Diwali is the Hindu ‘festival of lights’, an annual event that symbolises the spiritual victory of light over darkness and good over evil. It is observed by several religions and is celebrated across the globe.
As a thank you for their hard work this half-term and as a part of our wellbeing initiative, staff at Barnhill enjoyed their first wellbeing activities session this week. Staff offered to lead sessions such as meditation, pottery and table tennis complemented by our cultural food day; where a small team of amazing teacher chefs showed off their culinary expertise and offered a grand buffet of food from various different cultures. This supported us in promoting wellbeing across our staffing body and was the perfect way to end a very busy term where staff have worked incredibly hard with our students and had a well-deserved thank from our Headteacher Mr Jones.
Members of the school leadership team, Kyran and Nabila, attended a challenge partners event at UCL to discuss their educational journey.
The Social Mobility Foundation delivered some great advice and support to year 12 students looking to attend some top universities in the country.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to our successful bake sale on Thursday and Friday. We, as a team, had a lot of fun planning and executing this for the school to raise money for charity and our future cultural event. A large portion of the money will go towards the charity 'Mary's Meals'. Their vision is to ensure every child receives one daily meal at their place of education, so we are grateful to all those who made it possible for us to raise money for them. The cultural event will take place later in the year and, thanks to your help, we are now able to have numerous fun activities for you all.
A special thanks to Kaela, Kaya, Alisha, Samiya, the Prefect Team, and Ms Raheman for helping out!
Thanks to all the students, pupils and their parents/carers who came to visit us on Wednesday, 29 September for our Open Evening. We were delighted to welcome you in person and show you a flavour of the wonderful subjects that form our rich curriculum, the fantastic teachers who inspire and motivate our students, and the excellent facilities we have to support our students' learning. Feedback from visitors was incredibly positive.
