  • Women in STEM trip

    Mr Potts organised a trip to the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy for girls to experience careers in STEM.  Please see some reports below from students who attended.

It was a pleasure to meet your students, who were all incredibly engaged and asked really insightful questions, not just on STEM careers but also on topics like wellbeing, confidence, and dealing with life’s obstacles. One of our speakers got in touch afterwards to say that she herself had felt inspired by the conversations being had and this is down to how open the students were!"

  • English Literature Globe Trip

    In order to develop students' understanding of Shakespeare - one of the core modules for A-Level English Literature - a trip was undertaken to The Globe, London to learn more about the staging, directing and adaption of one of his best known plays Hamlet.

  • Remembrance Day

    As part of Remembrance Day, I was able to bring my Grandfathers' medals for the students to see.

    Charles Skilton was a Dispatch rider, he was part of the 8th Army in El Alamein. One of his duties involved him taking Earl Alexander to see Montgomery through the Minefields. This earnt him the nickname ‘Skilly’

  • Careers Day

    Friday 18 October saw Barnhill’s first ever Deep Learning Day. All pupils across the school were off timetable to immerse themselves in real world enrichment activities.

    Year 7 explored planets at the Science museum i-max

    Year 8 pupils took a trip to look at the geography and ecology of Kew Gardens

    Year 9 took part in a wellbeing day with inter-house sports competitions as well as sessions exploring yoga and mindfulness

    Year 10 had a host of exciting visitors including the recording artist Elliott Morris and a Dance group from Uxbridge College. The highlight for the whole year group was a visit from Carnegie nominated author Savita Kalhan who talked about her new book, “That Asian Kid”.

    Year 11 spent the whole day learning about a range of careers with talks from hospital consultants, microbiologists, credit rating companies, Wagamama and Hillingdon Mental health services.

    “I loved the talk by the doctor because she was relatable. She didn’t tell us we have to get the best grades but perseverance, motivation, resilience and determination are key to make your goal a reality.”
