Music Mark Accreditation

Barnhill Community High School is awarded the Music Mark of Recognition
The Barnhill music department is incredibly proud to be the first lead school for music in the London Borough of Hillingdon, a position that we have held since 2024. In recognition of this role, Hillingdon Music Service has awarded the school the Music Mark of Recognition for Ambition and Quality, for its ongoing commitment and leadership for students, schools and the community, advocating for an ambitious and inclusive music curriculum and bringing creativity into our schools.
By accepting the Music Mark of Recognition, Barnhill School pledges to:
- Advocate for the importance of music education in the curriculum and creative life of our school
- Provide an equitable, diverse and inclusive music education for every young person
- Welcome opportunities to broaden our musical horizons by working with providers in our community and beyond.
The Barnhill music department aims to inspire a lifelong love of music by fostering creativity, confidence, and cultural awareness. Through a balanced curriculum of performance, composition, theory, and technology, students engage in diverse musical experiences. These include ensembles, workshops, and community events. We promote inclusivity and collaboration while developing technical and expressive skills. The impact is seen in students who leave with musical proficiency, resilience, and transferable skills such as teamwork and discipline - empowering them to enrich their communities and embrace the arts throughout life. Collaboration and a passion for music lays at the core of our music leadership to help shape this area of the curriculum across our local borough and beyond.
