Student Leaders at Taekwondo Taster

On Wednesday 25th January we took nine of our year 8 Sport Leaders to assist at a Taekwondo taster session for primary school pupils at the Unit Gym which is attached to William Byrd School.

Taekwondo is the art of self defence that originated in Korea. It is recognized as one of the oldest forms of martial arts in the world, reaching back over 2,000 years. The name was selected for its appropriate description of the art: Tae (foot), Kwon (hand), Do (art).

The 5 tenets of Taekwondo are

  • Courtesy
  • Integrity
  • Perseverance
  • Self Control
  • Indomitable Spirit

These are great life skills and echo our own ethos of respect and aspiration.
The event was attended by pupils from a number of primary schools in the borough who were ably assisted by our Sport Leaders to ensure everyone participated and had an enjoyable experience.
Our students were a credit to the school and proved to be great ambassadors.
