The first example below is of 'chunking' as a student learns to approach aspects of answering the essay question in the external exam. From here, students begin to build skills in making musical comparisons between known, and unknown pieces as they work towards an extended essay lasting 45 minutes of the 1 hour 45 minute exam.

Learning was guided by their progression and understanding in earlier lessons using Rosenshine's principles of instruction to monitor understanding and set appropriate goals through a series of challenges allowing for accelerated learning.
