Character Curriculum

The Enrichment Programme

The Enrichment Programme is an important aspect of the Character Curriculum at Barnhill Sixth Form. It aims to further student development and teach a range of life skills in ways which academic subjects may not.

Students choose from a carousel of activities including university cooking and food budgeting, team sports, yoga and wellbeing, dance, music, drama, study skills, financial literacy education and university and apprenticeship guidance with a particular focus on the UCAS process.

We punctuate our programme with visits from charities and inspirational speakers from various careers and backgrounds including medics, lawyers and charity workers.

Students also enjoy exclusive access to our full size Astroturf pitch and gym after school for 90 minutes each week.

Role Models

Under the Contribution To Community Programme students are encouraged to look for opportunities to give back to their school and local community.

Many students assist around the school and in the classrooms of younger pupils at Barnhill and also Belmore Primary where Sports Leaders run activities for a range of pupils.

The Sixth Form also take the lead in fundraising in the school and annually raise hundreds of pounds for good causes. In 2019 we raised over £300 for Children In Need to rebuild an orphanage following an earthquake in Nepal.

Extra-curricular Opportunities

We complement the Enrichment Programme by organising meaningful extra-curricular visits. Our students have the opportunity to attend university and careers fairs such as the UK University & Apprenticeship Search Fair which we attend annually with Year 12.

Our Character Curriculum combines to develop mature, caring, future citizens who we are proud to work with and call our own. By the time they leave us our students are independent, confident and respectful, and capable of making well informed decisions about their futures.
