Talking Patois for BHM

Students were introduced to this unique language of Jamaica
On Tuesday 21st October, we had a fantastic opportunity to welcome Dr. Cornelia Walters, an author and educator, who spoke to students about her latest book which has made it into the Oxford library. She shared, from her most recent book, "Jamaican proverbs & meanings" on how Jamaican ancestors used proverbs to express their thoughts in Patois (patwa). The students were encouraged to learn and speak in Patois, in their lessons and groups, sharing the meanings of these unique proverbs.
This was a fantastic opportunity in line with Black History Month to invite a published author to engage with students and share a culture that the students may not have experienced before. We would like to Thank Dr Cornelia Walters for this support and hope the students enjoyed this opportunity.
