Getting Down to Business

An 'economical' seminar for Y12 & Y13
This term Year 12 & 13 Economics & Business students met Bank of England Ambassador Vishmi Sapukotanage, who spoke to the students about the role of the 300 year old central Bank of England. The presentation linked directly to both the Economics and Business A-Level Courses where students linked topics learnt in class with real world practices.
The presentation covered the importance of people living in the UK being able to have confidence in the economy and maintain financial stability. Vishmi spoke about economic issues including monetary policy, inflation targets, interest rates and how the bank is different to high street banks.
Students were interested to learn about the bank printing polymer bank notes, cryptocurrency and the 400,000 bars of gold held in the vaults of the bank, worth billions of pounds. Vishmi also took the opportunity to speak to the students about potential careers in finance and opportunities at the bank, which created a lot of questions from the students. A valuable presentation for every student.
