Students looking to further their education
We may only be half a term into the new academic year but students already need to start thinking about life beyond GCESs and their next steps.
We were delighted to open our doors and show case what we have on offer in our Sixth Form. Our curriculum leaders and expert teachers took pride in running practical demonstrations and talking about their subject areas with passion and ambition; our sixth form manager and careers advisor offered fantastic insight into the world of UCAS and career pathways.
Last year we sent 35% of our students to Russell Group Universities, Others to Cambridge and a record cohort to study at Imperial and King's! This year we have applications to Oxford, Cambridge and Harvard and the full suite of Russell group universities. Much of this is owed to the tailored advice that students receive from our sixth from manager and the independent careers advisor, who works predominantly with early entry students.
We welcomed over 550 visitors and, for the first time, students from other schools outnumbered our own students! A number of visiting students said they had come 'because of the grades this sixth form gets and because we know people who have come here, who love the staff’. They are not wrong, we have some of the most qualified and dedicated staff in the country, who are desperate to teach you the subjects that they love. This could help to explain our progress score last year, that placed Barnhill in the top 25% in the country, making us one of the most competitive sixth forms in Hillingdon.
