Bowled over by Simon Hughes

Selected students enjoyed a special cricket coaching session
Simon Hughes is a former Championship winning professional cricketer for Middlesex CCC. Following retirement from playing, he stepped into the field of journalism and took up TV commentating, writing and podcasting.
Just before half term, Mr Hughes came into school to run a session with some of our keen cricketers at Barnhill. Shiv, Y8 Student said of the visit:
'My experience with Simon Hughes was enjoyable and exciting. We had a great time talking about cricket and some of the funny mistakes that can happen during a match which made everyone laugh and feel relaxed. At the same time, we were training hard and learning new skills. Simon watched us carefully while we practised. He explained how to improve our batting, bowling and fielding. He told us what we were doing well and where we could improve. His advice was clear and easy to understand. I felt more confident after listening to his tips. I also learnt how important teamwork and communication are in cricket. Overall, it was a brilliant experience and I learnt a lot.'
We very much appreciated the time given by Mr Hughes and it was a privilege to welcome him to Barnhill.
